Placing dimensions in accordance with a tolerance block

It's been a while for me, but during my working life we always used a tolerance block on our engineering drawings (see http://gdtseminars.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/gentol.jpg as an example). This of course requires that I be able to place dimensions with varying numbers of decimal places on a d...

Re: Merging drawing border with existing drawing

Yes, I was able to resize the viewport, fiddle with the scale and have made my seed file my default template.

I now understand what's going on with these useful tools and how to use them properly.

Again thanks for the help.

Re: Merging drawing border with existing drawing

Done! I did have an issue with it presenting the portrait layout even though I selected the landscape layout, but I manually select the correct one and all was well. I thought I'd done something wrong in the create process so I repeated it, but the problem occurred again so it wasn't me, but it's a ...

Re: Imperial (US) drawing sheet templates, ANSI A-E

So, then you're saying by inserting text manually in the block, not through use of the field, right? Also, I take it Standard if the font you've used for the rest of the text in the title block? The reason I ask is that some applications have a special key sequence to insert a carriage return into a...

Re: Merging drawing border with existing drawing

OK, I did as you described. All went off without a problem. I'm using inches for my drawing units. One question - can I delete the two unused layout blocks (Layout1 and Layout2) that come in the file by default?

Thanks for all the help.

Re: Imperial (US) drawing sheet templates, ANSI A-E

Is it possible to enter a multi line title in the drawing title field?

Thanks.

Re: Merging drawing border with existing drawing

I updated my seed file as you suggested. I've included a snapshot of its current state.

To place both borders in the same file I had to rename to blocks or things behaved strangely.

At any rate, I believe I'm ready to move forward.

Re: Merging drawing border with existing drawing

Sorry I didn't include this info earlier. I'm using QCAD Pro V3.21.3 on a Linux Mint Silvia box. Typically, my drawings are ANSI A size, either landscape or portrait because I only have a standard laser printer that prints letter and legal size paper in-house. If I want to print larger format drawin...

Merging drawing border with existing drawing

As discussed under another topic, I downloaded the set of ANSI drawing borders with block attributes offered under the topic https://qcad.org/rsforum/viewtopic.php?t=2498 . I have an existing drawing in a separate file I'd like to add insert into the ANSI A portrait border. Being somewhat new to QCA...

Re: Looking for info on the proper way to use QCAD

Thanks for the reply; this helps a bit, but raises some additional questions. I found a set of ANSI drawing borders with block attributes at https://qcad.org/rsforum/viewtopic.php?t=2498 . I have a drawing (model) that I've put together prior to finding these in a separate file. What would be the co...

Looking for info on the proper way to use QCAD

I'm new to QCAD, but not new to CAD in general. I a past life I created engineering drawings from my 3D models for the US Army and US Air Force. In doing this I learned through experience and training that behind the design of the S/W used there was a concept of operation. If the engineer and drafts...

Placing dimension text in the dimension line

One more newby question - Is it possible to get the dimensions to be placed with the text placed in a gap in the dimension line - Like this: | | |<------------------------- 12.5 ------------------------------>| | | | | It's not a big deal, but it's what I'm used to and I'd like to continue the tradi...

Thanks, I think that's exactly what I'm looking for. I'll have to play with it to better understand how it works.

Placing points relative to others

This may be a difficult question to get across, but I'm going to try just the same. Understand that I come from the background of Bentley Microstation, so it colors the capabilities that I'm looking for in QCad. What I'm looking to be able to do is snap to a point, say an intersection of two lines, ...

New to the group

I just joined the group and just began using QCad. I've used other CAD/CAE S/W in the past as a part of my job, such as Bentley Microstation and various products offered by Intergraph Corporation back in the 1980s and 1990s. I've already been able to make a pretty good start in QCad 2.0.5 Community ...
