Solved What is this object

Post by seasdes » Mon Aug 04, 2025 3:22 am

When I create a new drawing an object appears in the drawing and I don't know what it is. Any ideas and how do I remove it?

Hi,

Please specify your QCAD version and OS (forum rules).

The object is most probably not saved in the attached DWG.
When loaded TA selects nothing in the Model Block or in the two layout Blocks.

The screen capture shows a white background.
Are you drawing in Print Preview mode or is your drawing background white by preference?

It would have been handy if the arrow was included in the drawing file.
Can you specify a nearby location?

CVH

My QCAD version is shown in my signature. Is this not ok?

TA may not select it, but when you hover over the object a 4 headed arrow appears.

I have set the background to white for ease of drawing and viewing (some may disagree).

It would have been handy if the arrow was included in the drawing file.

The arrow was inserted into the screen clip.
I have attached another screen clip and dwg file.

@seasdes

This shows the absolute 0 position of a drawing. It is not selectable or can be changed.
Work smart, not hard: QCad Pro
QcadPro, QcadCam, Win11/64, 64GB RAM, 10-Core, SSD
If a thread is considered as "solved" pls. change the title of the 1. post to "[solved] Title..."

No, not the red cross. I am referring to the small rectangle at the end of the blue arrow.

Hi,

Sorry to say but between in the area from (0, 0) to (10, 10) I can not detect anything in the attached files.
Both files are empty from my point of view.

Yes and no.
Your signature pops up under all your 133 and counting posts.
As if you were using QCAD Pro V3.32.3 since your first post in 2021 ... Even long before it was released.

Signatures don't show on replying to a post ... Sorry, my bad.

TA may not select it, but when you hover over the object a 4 headed arrow appears.
Your second screen capture refers to somewhere near (5.0, 8.0).
Does that remain at this position relative to the drawing origin?
Or is the position fixed within the GUI when you Zoom - Pan?

A 4 headed arrow also appears when you point to the dotted region to drag a Toolbar.
Is the mystery object perhaps an empty floating Toolbar or other widget?

 I can replicate a grey square with borders and just one dot on a white drawing canvas with:
- Allowing to display 'User Toolbar 2'. (I have no really empty Toolbars and 'User 2' is then less work)
- Dragging it on the drawing area as floating.
- Emptying the second user Toolbar by re-configuring where to list up my custom command buttons.
The position is then GUI window relative and not drawing origin relative.

It should then be displayed at the same location for any loaded drawing file disregarding the scale or viewport area.
These QCAD GUI related objects and/or preferences are not stored in a drawing file.

If that is the case then first drag the object to the general toolbars area before hiding the toolbar.
At the end of the top toolbar for example.
Filed a feature request FS#2687, you could vote this up.

PS. Your Pen Toolbar and Info Toolbar share the second row with the Options Toolbar at the beginning.
That Options Toolbar is dynamically adapted depending the current active tool.
It is a good idea to place the Options Toolbar on a separate row of its own.

Hi CVH

Sorry for the late reply and thanks for your help.

In this case the mystery object that I referred to was indeed an empty toolbar. It was the Quick Modify toolbar, which was empty. I moved it to the toolbars area and then toggled Quick Modify off.

Problem is now fixed.

The Quick Modify toolbar should not be empty at all :!:
And it is not that the icons for these Pro features can not be located for some reason.
Even then it would be empty squares what prevents that the toolbar is cropped.

It can only mean that you have customized the visibility of these QCAD commands.
See menu Edit .. Application Preferences .. General .. Tool Options

Enter the search term 'quick' and the list of available commands is reduced.
Verify if the 6 related tools their visibility on the toolbar is cleared or not.
By default visible in: Menu, Toolbar, CAD Toolbar and Tool matrix.
