Drawing Layout for Printing

Post by ShuggyB » Thu Jun 22, 2017 7:08 pm

Just getting started with QCad Pro and need help with the layout for printing. What is the recommended way to set up the drawing layout, title, scale, date etc. so that it can be retrieved at any time for any drawing?

I am on a Windows 10 PC.

Hello ShuggyB - welcome to the forum.

The best way depends on the situation but don't worry to much about that .... you'll find out what works best for you.

Basically I can imagine 4 ways:

1. Templates,
2. Library,
3. Import,
4. Copy/Paste,

I assume you are looking right now for Templates.

In QCAD you can create and use your own Templates as a starting point for a new drawing. You will find them below Menu/File/New from Template ...
or if you need more variation just download more from viewforum.php?f=51

However - use them as they are or change them to your personal needs. The new from Template dialog will provide all options and I think it speaks for itself. If not - just ask.

So, your drawing should be always drawn in 1:1. If you have to print it scaled the Print Dialog will take care of that. If the Template isn't created in that particular scale you may have to scale it before printing - not a big deal.

Play around with this Template functionality and see what happens. Will that get you started?
Work smart, not hard: QCad Pro
Win10/64, QcadPro, QcadCam version: Current.

Many thanks for the prompt response.

The thing I am struggling to grasp is getting a 1:1 drawing of my back garden onto an A3 sheet template.

If you could give me the basic steps that would be great.

Typically, you would scale your drawing border up to fit around the drawing.

Please refer also to this detailed printing tutorial:
