I have 4 drawings that I want to combine into one. I want each part on a separate layer. When I open each drawing on the " 0" layer I can manipulate it and explode it. If I create a new layer and open the drawing in it and try to explode it it disappears.
I am sure it is something I am doing ( or not doing) but not sure what it is.

Re: Multiple Drawings into 1 on seperate layers
It's not very complicated. ONE way looks like this:
1. open all 4 drawings in QCAD
2. select all entities of the second (3rd/4th) drawing (CMD+A)
3. copy all entities with SHIFT+CMD+C (select a reference point, e.g. origin point)
4. change to the first drawing
5. create a new layer and activate it
6. paste the entities of the second drawing into the first drawing (on the new layer) by clicking on the reference point (e.g. origin point)
(CMD+V-Options (Rotation= 0, Scale= 1, to current layer = activated)
7. repeat steps 2. to 6. for all your drawings

Re: Multiple Drawings into 1 on seperate layers
Did you:
Use an existing drawing or create a new drawing as the target drawing,
create or activate an existing Layer,
import a drawing below Menu / File / Import - chose drawing - Ok ...,
an option box in QCAD will pop up and shows the options for the import - chose "To current Layer"
place the imported drawing into your target drawing - first import done!
Next drawing, chose another Layer and repeat the procedure ...
Next ...
Next ...
Now all imports on its own Layer - is that what you are looking for?
