I've created a drawing on layer 0. The layer contains a number of blocks.
When I copy the drawing in layer 0 and paste with reference into a new layer which I've created, the block components don't copy. Why?
If I try to add the blocks to the new layer from the block screen nothing happens.
Are the blocks tied to the layer they were created in?
How do I copy blocks onto different layers

Re: How do I copy blocks onto different layers
No. Think of the layer as an attribute of each entity (like its color or lineweight). Each entity has a color and each entity is on a layer.djwright wrote:Are the blocks tied to the layer they were created in?
If you cannot solve the problem, please attach your drawing file.

I cannot solve the problem.
The blocks won't copy from layer 0.
I can't add the blocks in new layer.

Re: How do I copy blocks onto different layers
To which layer are you trying to copy?
I've noticed that layer 0 and many other layers are invisible.
Note that you cannot select entities on invisible layers or paste anything into an invisible layer.

Hi djwright,
Then it will work.
I've noticed that many Layer are frozen / locked too - that can't work. Please make sure that the target Layer is active, visible, unfrozen and unlocked.djwright wrote:When I copy the drawing in layer 0 and paste with reference into a new layer which I've created, the block components don't copy. Work smart, not hard: QCad Pro
Win10/64, QcadPro, QcadCam version: Current.

Re: How do I copy blocks onto different layers
Sorry its still not working for me.
I want to copy blocks to layer 2.
I unlock layer 2.
I make it visble.
I highlight the layer.
I select a block (say WI 6 Slot).
I hit the blue button in the Block List area.
I over over the drawing area.
I see the crosshairs but not the block.
I can insert the block in Layer 0 but not in any other visible / unlocked layers.

Re: How do I copy blocks onto different layers
- Load file "SNE Field Layout RBoD 3a - WORKING.dwg"
- Make layer "0" visible (see notes below)
- Add a layer "2" (will be visible, unlocked and active by default)
- Click block "WI 6 Slot" in the block list
- Click blue icon to insert block to current layer ("2")
- Place block in drawing area
Note: Block "WI 6 Slot" contains lines and a circle. These lines and the circle are all on layer "0". In order for references to block "WI 6 Slot" to be visible, layer "0" needs to be visible (because the whole contents of your block is on layer "0") as well as the layer you place your block reference on (in this case layer "2").

Re: How do I copy blocks onto different layers
Thanks for that. I understand.
Is it possible to create blocks that I can copy into any layer without the original layer being visible?
