Model Space and Paper Space - New to QCAD

Postby ctr » Thu Oct 26, 2017 4:18 am

Perhaps someone here can help me:

I use Solid Edge 2D where I will draw everything at 1:1 in the model space, then set up a new sheet - say A3 complete
with the drawing template (title blocks, revision table, etc), then I copy from the model space in paste into the sheet and
then scale the drawing to fit the sheet.

Is there a similar way to this in QCAD Pro or is there another approach?

Thanks in advance

Hello ctr - welcome to the forum.

If I understand your Solid Edge procedure correct then you have to work with two open drawings, correct?

If so, yes you can do it similar in QCAD.

But .... assuming you need most of the time in a drawing a frame, title block, revision table etc then it would make more sense to set up a template in QCAD. Check it out below Menu / New from Template ...

Basically ...
your drawing has to be drawn in Model space 1:1,
Frame, title block, revision table etc needs also to be drawn in 1:1 and then saved as a block,
Scaling of the drawing is part of the Print process - no need to scale it by yourself,
Assuming your plan is to print the drawing in e.g. 1:10 ...
... then you need to put in the frame, title block, revision table into your drawing with a scale factor of 10. To do so check the Block List / chose the block, launch "Insert Block" and look out for an up popping Option Bar. In this Option Bar, among other things, is the possibility given to set a scale factor ...

Now you should be ready to go - launch the Print Preview and follow this brief tutorial to finish the task:

Note that a new approach using viewports in layout blocks will be available starting with the next release. See also:
