Importing SVG: Can I specify Layers for different <g></g> groupings?

Post by davecoventry » Thu Mar 01, 2018 9:39 am

Hi,

I'm creating SVG files from a parametric model using Freecad.

I've specified that Hidden lines are not as thick as visible lines, so visible lines are grouped together within the same <g></g> SVG grouping. Similarly, hidden lines are grouped in a different grouping.

This makes it easy to assign each type to a separate layer.

However, when I import the SVG file into Qcad, all this information is lost and the elements are all placed in layer "0".

Is there any way I can assign the different SVG groupings to different layers?

Many thanks

~ Dave

No, QCAD ignores groups in SVG at this point.

If you have any follow-up requests, please:
- indicate the operating system you are using and the version thereof
- indicate the exact version of QCAD you are using (see Help > About or QCAD > About QCAD)
- indicate the QCAD Edition you are using (QCAD Professional, QCAD Trial-Version, QCAD Community Edition)
- attach the imported SVG file

Perhaps you can export the file a number of times with a common origin and distant point in each file and the rest relating to one layer only. You can then open each file and paste the information into the layer you want. If you will only edit one layer usually then you could delete that layer and only export the changed layer.
