How to enter in survey coordinates

Post by SmallDiggs » Wed Sep 12, 2018 5:04 am

Hey folks,

Does anyone know how and where to enter in survey coordinates for creating civil type site plans for building lots? We typically work with surveys build in AutoCAD that we get from surveyors, but if we want to design a "Site Plan" using QCAD, we need to enter in angles using surveyor's coordinates like the following example:

W 82°13'26" E

What's the proper way to enter this in to QCAD, assuming North is always at the top of the page?

Thanks!

I have the latest version of QCAD and use both PC and MAC.

Angles may be entered for example as

N12°34'56"W
or
N12D34'56"W
etc.

I have to admit that I cannot decipher your example W 82°13'26" E. That would also not be understood by QCAD. What does it mean?

If I understand you correctly, you want to create a type of dimension to indicate an angle rather than being able to enter angles as such. If so, QCAD does not have such a dimension type.

Hello Jerry - welcome to the QCAD Forum. Thanks also for introducing yourself - interesting website.

Howsoever - as always there are multiple possibility's to accomplish that task. One would be the "Line from Angle" (LA) tool ...

... which can also be used from the Command Line - depending on your personal preferences.

Question: Whats about to get the surveyors data directly as a 2D dxf/dwg file?
Work smart, not hard: QCad Pro
Win10/64, QcadPro, QcadCam version: Current.

Hey, thank you for the info. Yes, sometimes we simply ask the surveyor for a direct cad file of which we then simply overlay a customer's home on top of their existing survey.

That is a more accurate way to creating a "Site Plan".

Andrew answered my question of which seems to be working pretty well:

Enter in a surveyor's data angle in to QCAD like this: N12D34'56"W
