[Solved]What is it called?

Post by longhaul » Fri May 27, 2022 2:37 am

Windows 7, QCAD 3.27.5 or
MacOS Catalina 10.15.7, QCAD 3.27.5

I'm working on a drawing now to create a "map" of a school campus. Some of the building shapes are busy, so I'm drawing them off to the side. I want to select all the lines for the building when completed and make it a "xxxxxxxx" (the word I'm looking for).

That way I can select "xxxxxx" and bring it over to where I need it by the other buildings once completed.

Thanks

Windows 7, QCAD 3.27.5 or
MacOS Catalina 10.15.7, QCAD 3.27.5

I've attached my starter drawing. There are more buildings to go but these are the first three. What I want to do is make Bldg 1005 one complete "thing" or "object" or as Ryan suggested a "block".

I want to move Bldg 1005 as one "thing" or "object" rather than all the lines one by one (which is how I created it). I want to take a corner of Bldg 1005 (the corner at 249'4", 149'0") and move the entire Bldg 1005 to closer to Bldg 1004. The point on Bldg 1004 that I want to get closer to is 216'0", 107'10". I'm trying to make the drawing full size, hence the big numbers in feet and inches an my X,Y co-ordinates.

I hope this makes sense, because I know I'm not using the correct CAD words to describe what I am trying to do.

Thanks

You can select multiple lines/objects and move them all together without having to create a block, but if you anticipate having to move a set of lines multiple times, it could certainly be helpful to turn them into a block. Otherwise, if you're just moving Bldg 1005 once, there might not be any advantage.

P.S. You are correct to draw the buildings in their real-life size. That is the standard practice in a CAD program.

Let us know if you would still like to create a block and need some guidance with that or anything else!
