Losing input default
I'm just new to QCAD and would like to know whether I'm doing something wrong or if there's a glitch in my installation (Windows 10.1, QCAD V. 3.26.4).
When I first launch QCAD and go to Line - Vertical I just enter the desired length and the field changes to that value. There is no need to highlight the previous value to enter the new one.
I assume since you clicked Vertical Line the software expects a value.
After that line is drawn I just type in a new value and the next line will be that new value.
Again, no need to "black out" the old value.
This works in all instances where a value is expected.
For Angle Length , as soon as you click that icon you can enter your angle, then hit Tab and the field will move to length automatically.
I find after around 10 - 15 lines the fields freeze and when I try to enter a new value it just stays on the old one.
In order to change it I need to black out the old value with the cursor and enter the new value.
If I hit "Esc" it will go back for a while then freeze again.
Hitting "Reset" won't work, it has to be "Esc".
Is this normal for a reason I can't figure out?
Thanx!!

Re: Losing input default
I'm wondering if your cursor is no longer focused on the options toolbar, which is where you enter the values in the fields you mentioned. If you hit ctrl-space, it will bring focus back to the options toolbar. Does this solve the problem?
Re: Losing input default
Thanx,,
Ctrl - Space works fine but I was finding that there was no need to use it as the inputs would change without it.'
Here's what I was doing...
Open a new drawing, click on Line Vertical.
There will be a value there from the previous session.
With the cursor in the drawing area enter a new value without Ctrl - Space or manually blacking out the old value.
The value will change to your new value.
Now drop your line on the screen and just enter a new value, again w/o Ctrl - Space and the value will change and the new line you're drawing will draw itself to the new length you put in.
I kinda tripped over this accidentally.
It lets you keep entering values one line after the other w/o Ctrl - Space.
But as I said, it locks after a while.
Can you try it and tell me if it does the same for you?
Thanx again!

Re: Losing input default
Lebedick,
I did Line Vertical.
Then:
- Entered a new length value and picked a point
- Entered a new length value and picked a point
- ...
I can repeat that endlessly.
Meanwhile, I can change Type, Reference Point, Snap, add/switch Layer, add/switch Block ...
And I've tried that over 100 times in a row.

Tested on Win10/64 QCAD Vers. 3.26.4.9
I would second ryancousins concern!
This is how I understand the design of the line tools:
Launching a line tool will automatically focus on the option bar. No CTRL + Space necessary.
With other words: Launch the tool, type the value, place the line in your Model_Space, type a new value, place in Drawing ... and so on.

I can reproduce this. After 15 - 20 times of using the tool the focus isn't anymore on the tool bar. Workaround would be to use the shortcut CTRL+Space and type the new value ...
I don't think so - I encourage you to file a bugreport below: www.qcad.org/bugtracker
Work smart, not hard: QCad Pro
Win10/64, QcadPro, QcadCam version: Current.

Re: Losing input default
Hi again,
Perhaps time depending!? ... My Autosave was set to 10min.
Additionally tested it with 1min Autosave.
And simply continued after such an event.
Works fine for me.

Re: Losing input default
I have noticed that issue also for quite a while. It seems to work with keyboard shortcuts, but not so reliably with the mouse.

Re: Losing input default
Wow, there does seem to be an issue there. Sometimes it seems like I can keep changing the length value forever and other times it seems to stop accepting input after 10-20 times. I can't seem to find a pattern to it. I tried the horizontal line tool as a comparison and could not recreate the issue.

Re: Losing input default
Thanx all...
Will keep an eye on the software and the forum.
I'll just keep using Esc or Ctrl - Space until it's de-bugged.

Re: Losing input default
I just tried recreating the issue on a Mac running iOS 11.6 with QCAD 3.26.4 and could not make it happen.
Re: Losing input default
I just tried it again with the latest snapshot, I could not fault it. Will keep an eye too!

Re: Losing input default
Hi All
I noticed "Ryancousins" posted a bug report on this problem.
I'm still having it...options box loses focus.
I changed a few shortcut keys to make general input easier and it seems to have gotten worse, not sure if hotkey changes had anything to do with that.
What is the protocol when a bug is fixed?
Does a patch get issued, or an update?
And will it be posted in this forum as fixed?
Thanx!

Re: Losing input default
1- The bug report is closed as fixed.
2- Patches to open sources are instant at GitHub.
Patches to core or proprietary sources are included in upcoming snapshots or releases.
3- Not always, depends more on the person who posted it .. filed the report or the persons involved.
