[solved] QCAD closes when attempting file save

V3.29.6.0 Win10, I initially had this problem with the trial version and assumed you just couldn't save anything with that. Now that I've purchased and installed the Professional it's doing the same thing. It will load the autosaved version of my drawing, but as soon as the save/save as window is open for 5 seconds or so, QCAD just closes.

I thought I would start with a fresh drawing, so I declined loading the autosaved one, it did the same thing. Except now my drawing that had been getting autosaved has disappeared. So the program is currently unusable.

that is an unusual behavior and has nothing to do with trial or pro.

To be on the save side please reset Qcad to the default settings:

Then load and save the drawing again and tell us what happens. Btw - the drawing is not created by an other CAD program, right?

I found and renamed QCAD3.ini, things looked a little different, but still crashes when I attempt file save.

Is that a 100% Qcad drawing?
Does that happen with a new drawing too?
Which instalation Paket (full file name) was used?
"Save" was used below Menu / File?
What is the exact drawing file name?

By the "save/save as window", do you mean the file dialog, i.e. the dialog where you can usually choose where to save the file and under what name?

If so, please try the following:

- Edit > Application Preferences > File > Open/Save
- Uncheck "Use system file dialog"
- OK
- Then try File > Save As again.

This will use a different file dialog as the one provided by your installation of Windows does not seem to work with QCAD (this could be due to a network share or a faulty DLL).

Did that and different window pops up, but still closes QCAD after a few seconds.

I'm afraid that QCAD Professional will not work on your installation as there appears to be something wrong (very likely a faulty DLL that was installed by another software). I'm happy to issue a full refund, please confirm.

I opened QCAD again I think it may be working now, I'll get back to you in a few minutes.

After I did this: Uncheck "Use system file dialog", it's working fine. I have saved and reopened a drawing. It must have required that second launch of QCAD to fully take effect. Thanks for the help.
