Parallels extending around lines joining the line selected

Post by CAD4All » Sat Feb 22, 2025 6:34 am

I have been using the Parallel tool extensively to draw walls in the floorpan of a house. Generally, the tool is easy to use and saves a lot of time. However, I am finding that if I try to draw a parallel to a line that has other lines joining it at right angles, the parallel extends around the adjoining lines. That may be something that would be useful in certain circumstances, but in what i am doing it makes the tool unusable in those situations. I just what to draw a line to the selected line. Is there any way to force the tool to do this?

Check out alternativ the Offset tool for polylines. One of the options is single poylines. If you don't have polylines, convert those entities to polylines.

Work smart, not hard: QCad Pro

You are likely using the tool

Modify > Offset (with Distance)

You can switch this to "Segment Mode" to only offset one single segment (line, arc). See user reference manual above for details.

Or you can instead use

Draw > Line > Parallel (with Distance)
