[Workaround] Restore open files at startup not working
Hi,
I just upgraded to QCAD Pro 3.26.4.13, set the preference to open the last opened file at startup but it doesn't work. Any hint?
Thanks in advance
Massimo

Re: Restore open files at startup not working
I cannot reproduce a problem with this feature.
To make sure, we're on the same page: The idea is that you don't close the drawing(s) you are working on but quit the QCAD application. On the next start, QCAD will then open the file(s) that were still open when QCAD was quit.

Hi Andrew,
yes I followed the procedure you described but on startup QCAD opened a new empty drawing instead of the last one that I was working on. I deleted the preferences as described in the FAQs and repeated the test, no success. Created a new test drawing and saved it before quitting QCAD, no success.

Re: Restore open files at startup not working
Could you attach your QCAD3.ini file after quitting QCAD with a file open? Thanks.

It works with Windows, may-be Macs have their own ways

Re: Restore open files at startup not working
@andrew: ini file attached, last opened file is "test reopen.dxf"
@J-J: I get the same behavior on XP 32-bit

Odd. I cannot reproduce on any system (macOS, Windows XP, Windows 10, Linux). Can you save any other preferences? Otherwise it might be a permissions problem.
Anyway, I'll have to leave it at that for now as I cannot reproduce the problem here.

Re: Restore open files at startup not working
AFAICS I can set/unset other preferences and they are remembered. I tried changing permissions of the .ini file to everyone read/write but it doesn't work.
edit: later I noticed that the StatusBar flag is always set to "false" when QCAD quits, then I have to manually switch it on every time. Annoying.

Re: Restore open files at startup not working
Have you checked the folder permissions that the ini file resides in?
FYI the section in the ini file that should be saving the last file open is named [OpenFile] and it is the first two lines, ActiveFile= and OpenFiles=. I assume it's the same for all OS's

@petevick :
Folder permissions are correct, read/write for the owner and read only for everyone else. I already looked at the settings you mention, first line is empty and the other line has an invalid argument no matter what file I was working on upon quitting QCAD. Writing manually the file name I wish QCAD to reopen does nothing. To disappoint of my iMac (and mine too), this option works smoothly on Windows 10
[OpenFile]
ActiveFile=
OpenFiles=@Invalid()
Cheers

That line is usually the same as the first line. I have no idea why that has been generated.
Just a totally wild shot, and it's the only thing I can come up with, have you tried saving a file without any spaces in the file name ?.

Hi,
I checked your ini on Win too. First launch with QCAD will open new empty drawing. Loaded a test drawing - closed QCAD - relaunched QCAD - it will open the last open drawing without any problems ...

Did you mix different QCAD versions in the same folder?

Re: Restore open files at startup not working
Yes, sorry no good news.
Hi Husky,
I trashed the previously installed QCAD-Pro executable before installing 3.26.4.13. Didn't delete old .ini file contextually so couldn't say if it caused a misbehavior of the executable, by the way I deleted it afterwards then repeated the test (create a new drawing, save without closing it, check reopen last file preference, quit QCAD and relaunch) with no success. I created a new user account and got the same results.

Re: Restore open files at startup not working
I think the only way forward for you is to totally uninstall Qcad, making sure that the ini file has been removed, then reinstall Qcad.

I'm not a MAC'ler and I'm running out of options ...Relic wrote: ↑Wed Nov 24, 2021 9:25 pmHi Husky,

However - please try two things before I quit ...
1. If you open QCAD and it doesn't load the last opened drawing can you open the drawing manually over Menu/File/Open ... without any error messages?
2. Open QCAD, Un-tick "Restore open files" in Application Preferences. close QCAD.
Open QCAD again, Tick "Restore open files", close QCAD.
Open QCAD, load a drawing and test what happens after closing / re-opening QCAD. You already know the drill ...
