Hello,
After a PC crash, I am trying to re-install ver 3.15.5-pro-linux_x86_64.tar.gz on a updated Ubuntu OS - ver 24.04.1 LTS (64 bit) without success.
I have followed the Linux install instructions for this file set - extracted the files to a directory and ensured the Qcad binary file is set to Executable.
In Terminal:
Set the directory correctly
Typed ./qcad and got the following message:
./qcad-bin: symbol lookup error: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libfontconfig.so.1: undefined symbol: FT_Done_MM_Var
Then following the error investigation:
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=. ldd qcad-bin reported no apparent errors viz:

Re: Can't Re-install Qcad 3.15 on Ubuntu 24.04
Hi, and welcome to the QCAD forum.
It seems that you are trying to install an old QCAD distribution (+8 years) on a recent Linux distribution.
If you need support for Wayland then you need the package with Qt 5.14.
Similar reported errors:
https://www.qcad.org/rsforum/viewtopic. ... Var#p20740
https://www.qcad.org/rsforum/viewtopic. ... ror#p37675
Perhaps it is an idea to renew your licence for a small fee.
Regards,
CVH

Re: Can't Re-install Qcad 3.15 on Ubuntu 24.04
Thank you for your response.
My QCAD download is 6 years old.
My days of doing CAD are probably at an end, but I had one last drawing which needed editing, so I was trying to avoid buying a new licence for perhaps only one drawing. I've now resolved this by using LibreCAD but with a lot of remedial work to the drawing - QCAD is so much better!
Having had other issues with Ubuntu 24, I'm more inclined to install an earlier version of the OS, which will likely solve my QCAD issue.
Thanks again
Martin

Out of interest... can you remove the old version and try the trial - for that one drawing?

No need to remove the old version. To run a different QCAD version or a QCAD trial version, one can simply download the tar.gz (Linux), the ZIP archive (Windows) or the regular DMG (macOS). All these packages can be unpacked and run anywhere without the need for installation and without affecting the existing installation.
