What are the key parameters/hardware for improved QCAD performance?

Post by sguttag » Thu Oct 08, 2020 11:39 pm

I have the opportunity to purchase a new computer and one one of the things I've noted with QCAD is that it is VERY easy for it to get bogged down on some drawings supplied by architects/manufacturers.

If the drawing has a lot of splines, for instance or even just high detail, the program can run incredibly slow. The computers I run on are Windows 10 and Macintosh. Both have Intel i7 processors and are given 24GB of RAM. The Mac typically outperforms the Win10 machine but I believe the Mac's processor has a better clock speed.

Are there other or more key features to consider when buying/configuring a computer to run QCAD quicker on the more complex drawings?

Sounds more like you've reached the limit of what QCAD was designed to do. We are constantly working on improving QCAD performance, however, QCAD is designed to be portable first and performant second. QCAD does not use DirectX or Metal or OpenGL.
