Linux 64bit install : why Qt & not QT ? Which differences ?

Post by Giuliano69 » Wed Mar 03, 2021 7:40 pm

I bought a Pro license of Qcad
Now I should upgrade to 3.26, and noticed that we have "two" versions of Qcad 3.26 Linux 64 bit, namely:
  • QCAD Professional 3.26.0 for Linux 64bit (Installer)
QCAD Professional 3.26.0 for Linux Qt 5.14 64bit (Installer)
It seems to me, that neither the manual nor the email reply order, explain WHICH DIFFERENCES exist between this two versions.

For what I can test, I can install both on Ubuntu 20.04.02.
BUT,
Are there any FEATURES, or GUI improvements in one of said versions ?
What will I benefit from installing one or the other ?

BR
Giuliano

PS
Maybe this info should be kept in the order confirmation email for next purchase users.

Try the most generic "QCAD Professional 3.26.0 for Linux 64bit (Installer)" package first.

If that does not work and you are using a modern Linux distribution running Wayland instead of X11, try the "QCAD Professional 3.26.0 for Linux Qt 5.14 64bit (Installer)". For older systems, the legacy packages might be the only ones that work ("QCAD Professional 3.26.0 for Linux Legacy Qt4 64bit (Installer)").

There is no difference in features, etc. However, Linux is extremely diverse and it's impossible to create a package that runs on all Linux systems. It's also very hard to predict which package will work on your system.
What will I benefit from installing one or the other ?
If one works and the other one doesn't then that would be the benefit of the one that works. If both work, there's no difference.

Hello,

For what it's worth, qcad-3.27.6-pro-linux-qt5.14-x86_64 doesn't work on Debian 11 under Sway (Wayland) - the program doesn't open a window. When I start it, it prints this and then nothing further happens:

Code: Select all

QCAD version 3.27.6
enable high dpi scaling

If I use qcad-3.27.6-pro-linux-x86_64 then it works fine. The previous version 3.27.1 works fine as well but I upgraded to see if some drawing order glitches involving background images were fixed.
