[Solved] 3.26.2 "local data" question

Post by ryancousins » Thu Apr 15, 2021 12:06 pm

Every time I come to the forum and see a post for a new version of QCAD, I feel like a kid at Christmas!

I'm wondering what this added feature is about (https://qcad.org/rsforum/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=8363):
Add local data location to search path for resources files (patterns, linetypes, fonts, postprocessors, etc.)
I didn't know if this was a change "under the hood" or does it add or modify something for an end user?

Andrew, thank you for your continual work. :D

These are directories where you can add your own hatch pattern (.pat), linetype (.lin), font (.cxf) or post processor (.js) files. These resources will then be found by QCAD as if they were a part of QCAD. This makes updating easier and also means that you won't need admin rights to install such extensions.

For example, to add your own metric hatch pattern under Windows, simply add a downloaded .pat file to:
C:/Users/[Username]/AppData/Local/QCAD/QCAD/patterns/metric

@ Andrew,

I like this feature very much.
It will be off a great help while dafting/testing hatch patterns.

Do the patterns in 'local data location'/patterns/ ...
supersede patterns with the same name already listed in RPatternListMetric/-Imperial?

I could trial and find out the answer for myself ...
... but I would rather play it on save and ask the question.

Regards,
CVH
