Can someone assist me here please?
When I try to draw a line with a chosen starting point, the grid directs the cursor to where I don't want it. Slight one way or the other.
[solved] How to disable the grid function.

The question is "where do you want it".Jim0000 wrote:... the grid directs the cursor to where I don't want it. Slight one way or the other.
Check out the Snap menu and chose what typ of snap do you need. Example: If you decide to use the "Free" tool just click on it and the Grid Snap is replaced by the Free Snap.
Work smart, not hard: QCad Pro

Re: How to disable the grid function.
Ok, thanks Husky. I will give that a go.

Sounds good.Jim0000 wrote:Ok, thanks Husky. I will give that a go.
I recommend also to check out the Auto Snap settings to understand the whole Snap / Auto Snap features.
You'll find the settings below Menu / Edit / Application Preferences / Snap / Auto Snap
The Snap Tools are very important to design a precisely CAD drawing.

Re: How to disable the grid function.
I am now able to get it work independent from the dreaded grid snap.
However, it is not stable. I set it on "free snap" and then go to use it and it often reverts back to snap on grid. If I persevere, it will hold long enough to do what I want.
There must be something I am still missing.
I did have a look in the auto snap setting and checked some boxes and unchecked etc to see if I could gain control of it. No good. It will self revert back to some other setting as soon as I go to draw. With some selections in the main toolbar snap options, I cannot even draw a line.
I had a similar problem with LibreCad.
What have I missed?
Sorry about this, but I've tried many combinations and permutations without success.

Re: How to disable the grid function.
Please double-check your auto snap preferences (see above). If the Grid option is unchecked, QCAD should never use grid snap, unless of course you explicitly choose Snap > Grid during an operation.

I have got that part of the problem solved thanks Andrew.andrew wrote:Please double-check your auto snap preferences (see above). If the Grid option is unchecked, QCAD should never use grid snap, unless of course you explicitly choose Snap > Grid during an operation.
However, I still don't know how to stabilise the snap selection that I choose. Should I open another thread?
Re: How to disable the grid function.
Yes, please. Thanks. I've marked this thread as solved (with respect to disabling the Grid snap).Jim0000 wrote:Should I open another thread?
