Re: What do people use QCAD for?
Hi all
I am using Qcad for several task: one is to redo all my drawings done in Excel of my house renovation into proper layered technical drawings, I also use it to produce drawings of profiles that can be made on a router table as library components which can then be assembled in a drawing in order to visualise the finished product and anything else that I want to keep accurate data for, remember a drawing can replace a thousand words.
all the best Roy

Re: What do people use QCAD for?
I work in the field of 2D and 3D architectural design, mainly with AutoCAD and Artec software.
It looks like I'm not the only one who tried LibreCAD at first and switched to QCAD then. And I have to say I'm glad about a more polished drawing interface, a dark theme of the program and I am happy with the expanding feature set. Well done, thanks for your work.
Best regards.

Re: What do people use QCAD for?
I use have used autocad 2010 LT and have previously used R14 to generate architectural submittal drawings for div 8 and 10 materials ranging from toilet compartments, HM frames, Cubical curtains, room signage, and such for the better part of 30 years. I am trying to transition to QCAD to fulfill that need. I have tried LibreCad, BRL cad, TurboCad etc and have found them all lacking. The only thing I struggle with on QCAD is the learning curve to accomplish the same goal I achieve with Autocad. The functionality is there, the staff support is there, It is just a personal learning curve of differences between the two. I am excited about learning QCAD as I feel it is equal or surpassing autocad. I will just be a needy fellow in the forum until I grasp the differences and nuance of qcad

Re: What do people use QCAD for?
I'm not -- and have never been -- a CAD pro* but have used QCAD at home for about four years. For anything above a trivial level, it's easier to draw it up in QCAD than by hand. The hardest part is remembering what I forgot since the last time I used it!!
* In my first career I used vector-based illustration software as a graphic designer (CorelDRAW, etc.) before moving to IT 24 years ago (now retired!). Although not CAD, there's the possibility of a similarly-disciplined approach and a bit of overlap in terms of the ability to be precise and repeatable.
Here's a sample - I drew up the primary mirror cell (i.e. holder) from my 12" Dobsonian style astronomical telescope. I'm evaluating modifying the cell a bit and quantifying where it is now in QCAD makes possible modifications clearer. This drawing isn't complete in all aspects, but it's just for me and I know what bits are missing. Fortunately I'm not held to any corporate nor industry standards!

I have been a QCAD user for something over 12 years. Mostly for personal use in my wood shop. Heaviest use was during 2008 when I remodelled our kitchen and building the cabinets. Wish I could have generated a cut list!

Bonjour.
A+

Re: What do people use QCAD for?
I am running Qcad 3.27.7 on Windows 11
My business is CNC fabricating aluminum instrument panels for aircraft.
I use Qcad for the panel layouts and then feed the output DXF file to the CAM software that generates the tool paths for my CNC machine.

Bill from Vermont - USA

Re: What do people use QCAD for?
good evening, I use qcad professional for importing files from customers. Files are prepared and analyzed for export to my cam section to run a big cnc milling machine that cuts the carbon plates we are producing. I‘m new into this program but I already like it and also I like this forum

Bonjour.

I'm coming from Draftsight at $300 per year, crazy. My use is DIY data on my Sprinter van, tiki-sprinter.com. There' a complete electrical and plumbing schematic as well as some sample avionics installation drawings.

Re: What do people use QCAD for?
Hi, I'm selected QCAD also because the Linux version is present, and I think to migrate to one of these SO for all computers of my family.
I Use QCAD for a all my personal needs: electric and idraulic schemes, mechanical and architectural uses, furniture ideas and projects.
If to draw (2D or 3D) is the only source of our income for all the working time, is perhaps tenable to spend the money to have "the best" products, but now QCAD it's perfect!
Thank you,

Re: What do people use QCAD for?
I am hoping to use QCad for my model building I. I have an Atomstack A20 Pro 20W laser machine that I am learning to use. I am hoping to build model boats using 5mm thick plywood. My biggest problem is all the new programmes I need to learn to get what I want. As far as I know I need QCad to convert the JPG files I get to SVG or DXF so they can be used by the laser machine software.
My problem starts in QCad, trying to trace around the image, I can get along fine then suddenly the point jumps to a point that says 'Grid' and is not where I want it. I don't kknow how to get out of this so I have to start all over again. Is there anyone here that can explain what is happening and is there anyone who can understand what I am on about ??

Re: What do people use QCAD for?
In a previous life before "retirement" I was a professional in the mechanical design field in the high-tech industries mostly. From drawing board and slide rule days. Then the early days of CAD 2D and 3D including surface modelling. When the time came I looked at any number of the "free" or "cheap" packages available for PC. None were really satisfactory until Draftsight came along. Once all the bugs were ironed out by users of course it became a subscription service only and relatively expensive for the hobby user.
I then came to QCAD after adventures with LibreCad. It was easy to use and learn for me although some things took longer to master and I am still learning after a number of years. For what I pay each year (two licences actually) I am well served.
I am a garden railway enthusiast, not passenger hauling but still relatively large scale narrow gauge. I design and scratch build freelance equipment, rolling stock and locomotives battery electric, live steam and internal combustion nitromethane powered. This has spread to the design of a modular building system in which I cast all of the parts in polyurethane resin so a variety of infrastructure can be built from a few components to scale. As I also write occasionally for the appropriate hobby magazines about this hobby, QCAD drawings and .pdf conversions print well for those professionals.
From a personal point of view I am a Stage 4 cancer patient (under control from March 2020) and being passionate about this hobby and having a reliable tool such as QCAD and my workshop that I can turn to is an immense help in dealing with this. That is official as well from the medics.

Re: What do people use QCAD for?
As per my previous post this is one the projects recently completed. The original master orthographpic mosel was completed with QCAD and all the detailed component drawings for workshop use were taken and printed from it.
By the way one little quirk if using an HP printer is to make sure that "Borderless Printing" is ON if using an HP printer with A3 size paper.
