Many software's have different names for the same function tool, like trace, line art and so on. I am looking for a tool that take a filled in object and turn it in to edge lines, trace. Like solid text and turn it in to trace lines. I looked in the book, but could not find anything about it, I may have missed it.

Hi,
For solid filled hatches, TTF text and polylines with widths use Explode (XP).
This doesn't work for images ... Bitmaps.
A recent addition to QCAD is a method to trace bitmaps:

I think you're better off with more mature bitmap tracing utilities.
