Cursor Offset

Post by JeffDD » Fri Jan 23, 2026 2:48 am

There seems to be an offset between my cursor and the selection crosshairs. It's making it very difficult to select items. Please see the attached photo.

I'm using QCAD version 3.32.6.0 with Windows 11.

Thank you,

Jeff

Hi, and welcome to the QCAD forum.

Your topic is rather is a topic for the QCAD Troubleshooting and Problems forum.

This is called 'Coordinate snapping' and what you show us in the capture is being snapped to a Grid position.
It is an essential feature that allows us to point exactly to a certain coordinate on screen.
Further unrelated with making a selection of drawing objects.

A screen has but a limited amount of pixels in a certain DPI.
Each pixel is closely related to a certain position in the model depending the view area and zoom state.
The relation between a position on screen and the real position is an offset and a scale factor, typically in full floating point.

It would be practically impossible to indicate a position like (10.000, 10.000) on a pixel based screen in any zoom state.
Rather near but never exact e.g.: (9.99738834726912629, 9.99870208344893285).
And then I zoomed in really deep on point (10.000, 10.000) and used the cursor position without snapping called 'Free'.

When an input for a coordinate is required, QCAD will display a cross-hair.
Then the CAD Tools toolbar, typically at the left, displays a list of snapping options and possible restrictions for the coordinate input.
If the CAD Tools toolbar is not visible then activate it: menu Edit .. Widgets and Toolbars .. Toolbars .. CAD Tools

Snapping can range from 'Free' over exact endpoints to the exact intersections at a distance.
The result of that can be restricted in relation with the relative position.
By default the active snapping mode is 'Auto Snapping'.
If nothing else nearby in the void fits it will revert to Grid based.

Selecting a drawing object or objects is itself based on the distance on screen in pixels as:
  • Nearby the cursor within N (=10) pixels.

Many things are configurable under QCAD.
You can turn off snapping options with the consequence that it never is the intended position exactly.
And you can configure 'nearby' in pixels for making selections.

Regards,
CVH

CVH,

Thank you for your reply. I'll give your suggestion a try. I'm new to the QCAD Forum so I really appreciate your help.

Jeff
