Re: QCAD crashes on file save
Thanks for looking into this Andrew.
The issue persists whether the file is on the desktop or local server.
We don't use OneDrive (uninstalled it completely) or any other cloud based system.
QCAD shuts down anytime the target window opens ie. when we press "Save As" or "Open file" and when we press "Save" in an unsaved file.
When we open a file that was previously saved, make some changes and press "Save", it doesn't crash.
I hope this makes sense.

Re: QCAD crashes on file save
This is definitely something interfering with the system file dialog, not with the saving.
Please switch to the QCAD file dialog as suggested further up in this thread by unchecking:
Edit > Application Preferences > File > Open/Save > Use system file dialog

We've unchecked the "Use systems file dialogue".
The pop up window looks different but QCAD still crashes when one presses "Open file" or Save As".

Re: QCAD crashes on file save
OK, that is odd. Unfortunately, this is pretty much the end of options. Something unknown has changed on your system that interferes with the file dialog of QCAD.
Perhaps, you can temporarily unmount your network shares just to see if that has an effect. I understand that this would not be a permanent solution.
Just to double-check: you are using the latest version of QCAD (3.32), right?

Re: QCAD crashes on file save
Hmmm. That's no good we need to use QCAD - it's part of our production process lol. It's strange that it's happened on two of our laptops within days of each other.
We are on 3.29.4.0 (3.29.4)
It seems at least two other people in this thread have reported the same issue. I have no issue purchasing a new license if it helps but one of the earlier commenters said that it made no difference. Not sure what to do now.

Re: QCAD crashes on file save
You might simply want to try if a newer QCAD version solves the issue:
https://qcad.org/archives/qcad/qcad-3.3 ... -win64.zip (Qt 5)
https://qcad.org/archives/qcad/qcad-3.3 ... 64-qt6.zip (Qt 6)
These two trial version ZIP archives won't install anything on your system. Simply download, unpack, and then run (double-click) the qcad.exe file within, then try to reproduce the problem and report back. The difference between the two packages is the Qt version (5 vs. newer 6).

Re: QCAD crashes on file save
Thanks Andrew. The Qt 6 version seems to have worked. We'll have to purchase a new license. Thanks for your help.
Out of curiosity, is there any benefit to installing QCAD into Windows over running it as stand-alone?

Re: QCAD crashes on file save
Can you please confirm if the Qt 5 version from above also works or not?
That is the current stable release as we haven't fully moved to Qt 6 yet. Thanks.

Re: QCAD crashes on file save
A new license would give you access to Qt 6 based snapshot releases (i.e. the full version of the Qt 6 package above).
This also means that we will likely move to Qt 6 for our stable release for Windows sooner than planned.
Note that you will have to scroll down on your download page and look for "QCAD Professional Snapshots" to download a Qt 6 based package that works on your system.
It's also possible that Microsoft will fix the issue as this is clearly a compatibility issue related to a Windows update, probably one released in January. But that's impossible for us to say.

Re: QCAD crashes on file save
Noted thanks.
We still have a QCAD installed on a third laptop that works fine and can get by. We will leave it for as long as we can and see if MS come through with an update.
