[solved] Drawing a simple rectangle…

Post by Blarg » Thu Apr 24, 2025 12:33 am

Hello.

QCAD v3.30
MacBook

I can’t believe I even have to ask this, especially since I’ve done it before but can’t recall how and nothing seems to be working out simply.

I need to draw a rectangle.
I need this rectangle to be of the dimensions 62mm x 117mm and I need it to be centered to 0,0.
When I select “Rectangle by Size” it actually produces a rectangle in the size dimensions that I needed in a previous file, but I have no idea how I set those dimensions and therefore have not been able to duplicate it at this time. I’ve watched tutorial after tutorial, done google search after google search, and I can’t find anything that amounts to a simple rectangle. I know how to do everything else I need to do in QCAD but step one is drawing this stupid rectangle and I can’t figure it out and it’s driving me literally insane.

Please help me. Im at wits end. I don’t use this program often but still I feel like such an idiot that I can’t figure this out 🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️

e_confused Hello,
all what you need can be found in the option bar which pops up when you launch the tool "Rectangle with Size"

https://qcad.org/doc/qcad/latest/refere ... ze_en.html

BTW: An idiot wouldn't not ask for help ... ;-)
Work smart, not hard: QCad Pro
QcadPro, QcadCam, Win11/64, 64GB RAM, 10-Core, SSD
If a thread is considered as "solved" pls. change the title of the 1. post to "[solved] Title..."

What if I told you that the option bar does not change when I select Rectangle with Size?

This is what it looks like with Rectangle with Size selected:

The screenshot shows that you draw in the Print Preview what isn't a recommended way.

Close the Print Preview (QQ) what brings you back to Modelspace. Then launch the Rectangle with size tool again ...

Good lord 🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️

Not sure how I ended up in Print Preview! I never print anything from QCAD so I have no reason to be in it!

Thank you for troubleshooting for me. Saved me from throwing my laptop out the window! 😂

As per Husky's advice: QQ or 'Terminate all active tools' is your best option here.
Closing and restarting QCAD may even be better.

You are not really in Print Preview mode, Husky refers to the white on red cross and what comes after that in the Options Toolbar.
That serves to close the Print Preview mode but chances are that it won't be functional.
Typically Print Preview would have a white background.

It certainly looks that your Options Toolbar is a mess ... We have seen similar screen grabs in the recent past.
Normally this is dynamically updated and listed tools are only from the current active tool.
From left to right:
- Current active tool: Rectangle with Size and this is confirmed by your Command History but multiple times.
- 3 line modes ... Configured to produce endless lines
- Close sequence + Undo previous segment + Redo previous segment ... All enabled as if you where using LI and have undone the last segment.
- Length + Angle ... Also associated with LI in newer installations (Before that popped up after 'Restrict Angle or Length' with more options)
- For the rest we see buttons related to the Print Preview mode.
It may that the tools related to 'Rectangle with Size' or on the far right, typically after >> because the complete Options Toolbar is too long.

Perhaps it is an idea to update your QCAD installation.
v3.30 was released on 2024/06/13, the most recent version is 3.32.2.0
