Hello,
I've quite often the task to transfer changes from one set of drawings to another (similar) set.
My ideal setup would be to open one set in one window and the other set in another window.
Both windows would be aranged side-by-side (larger monitor).
Unfortunately Qcad (I'm using the Pro version) does not allow to be started twice in parallel.
Not even Qcad-trial runs concurrently to Qcad-Pro.
So my request is to be able to run two instances of Qcad-Pro in parallel.
It's ok if the second instance is in a kind of read-only mode where neither data not tool-settings
can be changed.
It's also ok if number of concurrent instances is limitted to 2.
Best regards,
Klaus

Hi,
you can already run multiple QCAD session when you start QCAD with this switch:
...\qcad.exe -allow-multiple-instances
Hello,
thank you for the hint, haven't known that.
I've tried it. Unfortunately there is a but.
I was not able to copy-paste between the two instances.
Is this intentional or my inability?
Best regards,
Klaus
Hi,
no, the QCAD clipboard will not crossover in this scenario but you stated that ...
However - quit honest I can't make sense of running two QCAD sessions simultaneously. Why isn't it working for you to open multiple drawings in one QCAD session and copy/paste entities from one to another ...?It's also easy to switch from one tab to another with mouse or shortcut.
Hello,
thank you for the workaround proposal.
The disadvantage is that you don't see both versions at the same time.
Yes, the second instance is read-only (what the copy-part of copy-paste) is.
The first (read/write) instance receives the changes.
I've tried your proposal already before i filed my request but at the end it was
more convenient to open both versions side-by-side (with LibreCad because i didn't
know how to open two instances of Qcad at that time) in two windows and to redraw the changes
instead of copy-pasting them.
This is more error-prone and just another sub-optimal work-around.
To have two documents open at the same time and copy-paste between them is not
so weird setup (e.g. in the word-processor area).
If you have to deal with different version of the same data my setup would
be quite convenient.
Best regards,
Klaus
The original issue (concurrent instances of QCAD) is solved (first comment).
But my usability issue not because copy-paste between these instances does not work.
=> closing this one and opening a new one for the copy-paste issue.
