I recently upgraded to 3.31.2 on both my home Linux machine (qcad-3.31.2-pro-linux-qt5.14-x86_64.run on Xubuntu 24.04 LTS) and my work Intel Macintosh. On both systems I installed the "Routed Gothic" font from https://webonastick.com/fonts/routed-gothic/ , which is the font I prefer to use, and have used on all of my drawings without any problems.
Up until now, I have not had any problems transferring drawings created on the Linux machine to the Macintosh or vice versa, and editing them.
The attached drawing (tensile_test_rates.dwg) was created using QCAD on the Intel Macintosh. Today I copied it to my Linux machine, and it opened and displayed perfectly in QCAD. I tried editing some text, and QCAD froze. Eventually, if (after almost a minute) the text entry window did appear, I could not type any text into it. Worse, I found that afterward I couldn't edit text in any other drawing-- even a newly-created blank drawing. The only fix was to reset QCAD by deleting the QCAD3.conf files. Everything would work again... until I open the tensile_test_rates.dwg file and edit text, whereupon QCAD would invariably break again.
I'll have to confine my editing of this drawing on the Macintosh at work. Again, I don't seem to have had any problems until 3.31.2, but I can't be absolutely certain.

Linux or Qt for Linux bug when rendering fonts with sub-pixel height.

I wasn't able to reproduce the problem here but I have a suspicion.
The texts in your drawing have a main text height of 5 (for example). The text height is then adjusted to a much smaller size with internal formatting codes:
\H0.125;Text
This might result in a sub-pixel text height for the text editor. Linux seems to be struggling with that, at least for this particular font.
You can try to fix the file on the mac as follows:
Edit each text, switch to the "Source" tab in the text editor and transfer the height from the code to the main height (see text_height.png).
If the main height is for example 0.125 (text_height_fixed.png), the text editor might work just fine under Linux.
Again, this is just a guess. Please let me know if that fixes the problem.
Andrew,
Yes, thank you, following your instructions solves the problem: on the Mac I used the "source" pane in the text editor and removed the formatting codes for each text object in turn, and set the main height to 0.125 for each. The drawing then became editable in Linux without problems.

From what I can read about Darren Embry fonts, they don't use hinting.
Quoting from his DSE Typewriter Font page:
"There are no hints, so on certain platforms this font may not be readable at lower font sizes. Auto-hints seem to work okay-ish."
